Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
jocoly.com is a personal portfolio site run by Joseph Lyell ("I", "me"). I keep data collection to a minimum. There are no accounts, no ads and no cookies, and I don't sell or share your data.
What I collect
The site counts visits with a small first-party script, so I can see how the site and games are used. For each visit it records:
- The page visited and the page or link you came from (for example a social media link or a
?ref=tag). - Your approximate location (country, region, city and time zone), looked up from your IP address by my hosting provider. Your IP address itself is never stored.
- Device and browser details: screen and window size, pixel ratio, touch support, browser language, browser and operating system (including which app's in-app browser, such as TikTok's), and local hour of day.
- Activity on the page: how long it was open and in active use, how far you scrolled, how long you played a game, how long the game took to load, which links you clicked, duck slaps on the home page, and a few script error messages.
To count unique visitors, the collector combines your IP address and browser details with a secret salt that is replaced every day (UTC), and keeps only the resulting scrambled hash. The old salt is deleted, so hashes can't be linked from one day to the next or turned back into an IP address. Each page load also gets a random ID that lives only in that page's memory and isn't stored in your browser. I don't collect names, email addresses or other directly identifying details through the site.
What I use it for
Only to understand how many people visit, what they play and what is broken, and to improve the site. The stats are viewed privately by me.
Data stored in your browser
The games save your settings and progress, such as volume and controls, in your browser's local storage on your device. That data doesn't leave your device, and you can clear it any time in your browser settings. If you opt out of stats (below), a small flag is stored the same way to remember that choice. The site sets no cookies.
Opting out
Visit jocoly.com/?notrack and this browser stops being counted. Visit jocoly.com/?notrack=0 to undo that. Automated browsers are not counted either.
Who processes data
- GitHub Pages hosts the site. As the host, it receives your IP address and request details when pages load, under GitHub's privacy statement.
- Cloudflare runs the stats collector (a Cloudflare Worker and database) and receives the visit data described above, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Ko-fi, if you follow the Tip Jar link, is a separate site with its own privacy policy. I don't receive your payment details.
Retention
Visit stats have no automatic expiry. I keep them for as long as they're useful for understanding trends and may delete them at any time. The daily salts are deleted every day. You can ask me to delete visit data, though since visits aren't tied to an identity, I may not be able to pick out yours.
Children
The site isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data, or to object to its processing. Because the stats are anonymous and cookie-free, there's usually nothing tied to you, but you can contact me about any of it.
Where I'm based
I operate this site from Indiana, USA. Indiana's consumer data privacy law only applies to businesses that handle the data of very large numbers of Indiana residents, which this site doesn't, but I follow the same basics: collect little, explain it plainly, and let you opt out.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update the date above.
